The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.

On April 9, 2007 Whitney M. Young Magnet High School  held a memorial service in honor of Christopher Pineda in the main gym of the physical education building. Chris' memory was honored by students performing a poem, a song and candid stories from friends. There were over 1600 people in attendance.

During 21 years of teaching English, our Jay Rehak became familiar with the collective groans a grammar lesson brings. He commissioned his students to create a grammar book  for use by all students of grammar. It was designed to help young people learn the subtle rules of grammar.
